"This was taken at the historic Volcano, an ancient skateboard obstacle rumoured to have been instated by the Derry council in the late 70s around the time of the birth of the Portglenone, Coleraine, Kilkeel bowls - all mad looking semi skateable structures, not amazing by any stretch of the imagination but pretty good for the time and place. Conhuir and the Mon keybrid crew were on their annual tour of the land with good friend Dominik Dietrich in the campervan too - I was damn jealous of that camper- this was the time of my Doggpound van. anyroads, we hit up the volcano for a skate, as it was always the place I'd take visiting skaters, it probably was the best Derry had to offer back then! The kids ripped it, Clynn, Dom and Ollie O'Hanlyn. Dominik was going 6ft high out of this thing, leaving my 1ft mellons on the scrapheap! I shot the photos on a new (to me) 50mm manual lens and a flash attached with a sync chord. I sent the Clynn fs flip to Leo at Sidewalk to show him some of the stuff we were hopefull going to use for th forthcoming Wizard mag. 10 minutes later Andy Horsely (a man I didn't know) was on the phone asking for the raw file (it was shot on jpeg), to use for the front cover of Sidewalk. Madness. This was taken at 20:59 on the 4th July 2007" jay dords
